Top 5 Books I Read in 2021

Hey guys, happy new year everyone! I hope you're doing well.

In 2021 I read 20 books 🥳, here are my favourite 5:

The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson

📗Italian Version
📘English Version

This is a book I wished I'd read ten years ago. Manson draws inspiration from some philosophical traditions such as Stoicism and Existentialism.

📝Three Main Concepts

  • Your values define your problems, your problems define your lives. So, choose your values carefully.
  • Take responsibility for everything that happens in your life. You may not be to blame, but you are responsible for how you react to what happens to you.
  • Don't be scared of failure. Failure is an opportunity to learn.

Indistractable by Nir Eyal

📗Italian Version
📘English Version

This is a great read if you feel the attraction to your social media feed has turned into something uncontrollable.

📝Three Main Concepts

  • Interruptions lead to mistakes, learn to defend your focus by signalling when you don't want to be interrupted.
  • By removing devices from your bedroom or by having the internet automatically turn off at a specific time you'll be able to take back a decent amount of quality time with your loved ones.
  • Learning to manage notifications on your phone by using "Do Not Disturb" is an invaluable skill to address all your potential distractions caused by those triggers.

Antifragile by Nassim Nicholas Taleb

📗Italian Version
📘English Version

This book is full of ideas and counter-intuitive thinking. A must-read to shape your mind and elevate your thinking.

📝Three Main Concepts

  • Understand the difference between fragility, durability, and antifragility.
Damocles is an example of fragility, if the hair breaks he dies.
The phoenix is an example of durability, no matter what happens to it, it'll always go back to the initial state.
The Hydra is an example of antifragility, it gets stronger by being hurt.
  • People mistake a lack of evidence for evidence. Smoking was a perfect example of this, since we didn't have any evidence that suggests smoking was bad for health, we thought it was good for health.
  • Redundancy is a form of antifragility. As humans, we have evolved to have two kidneys and two lungs, though we can survive with one of each.

The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel

📗Italian Version
📘English Version

I'd had loved to study personal finance as a subject when I went to school. This book met me just when I needed it. Each chapter revolves around a common theme but can be read independently.

📝Three Main Concepts

  • Wealth is what you don't see, and it's difficult to learn from what you can't see.
  • Being able to control your time is the highest dividend that money pays.
  • Compounding works best when you're not interrupting it unnecessarily and when you're able to wait years or, even better, decades to grow.

Show Your Work by Austin Kleon

📗Italian Version
📘English Version

This book is the main reason why this website exists. It's an awesome short book (I read it in less than 2 hours) full of ideas to let your inspiration flow and, in particular, letting people know that. Here are three main concepts from the book.

📝Three Main Concepts

  • In an era like the one we're living in, if your work isn't online it doesn't exist.
  • By sharing your daily creative process you'll establish a connection with your audience.
  • Doing things you like and talking about what you love will attract people who have the same interests as you do.
